At Cornell MAE 2250 is the introduction of the machine shop and machining in general for most students, myself included. The summer after I took the class I was on campus for the ESMI program and I wanted to get more experience with machining, so I went in and asked the shop manager for a project. He gave me the drawings and material for the machinist vice, the completion of which ultimately furthered my expertise with the manual mill and lathe while also introducing me to new tools like the knurling wheel, chuck lathe, and shell mill.
